Hi Local Petersham Park Residents
The "Petersham Park Waste Collective [PPWC]" was formed in Jun 2019 by a number of dog-
walkers and Rate-Payers to submit an Application to Council for a Marketing Grant to raise
awareness of improved waste management possibilities
The Marketing Grant Application was not successful
The Dog Walkers were aware that a number of submissions had been made to Council since
2005 for improved waste collection including dog-poo as a key concern around Parks as identified
by the Yarra City Council $ 45,000 grant in 2012 (Att A)
In Aug 2019 a Joint-Venture submission to the Inner West Council [IWC] for a trial Biogas
Digester system to convert dog-poo, grass cuttings and park tree & plant debris into Methane gas
and fertiliser was lodged
The submission to Council in Aug 2019 did not receive any response
On Thu 17 Oct 2019 members of PPWC attended the IWC Economic Development Strategic Plan
[EDSP] meeting - Meeting Report
On Fri 25 Oct 2019 a Submission on the Value to Local Businesses of a Volunteer Credits system
for improved local waste management was lodged with the IWC
This submission did not receive any response and was not included in the Council report on
Submissions to the EDSP
On Mon 04 Nov 2019 a Submission was lodged re the IWC "Draft Climate & Renewables Strategy
[CRS]" including requests for explanations how "41 Tonnes of Unsustainable Consumption carbon
credit emissions" (Att B) for each household per annum assisted Climate Change
No response was received re that question
On 14 Nov 2019 a meeting was arranged with 6 Council Officers to discuss improving the
Environmental Waste Management issues around Petersham Park
At that meeting PPWC attendees were informed Public meetings and submissions for the
"Petersham Park 10-yr Plan 2020-2030" would take place in Mar 2020
On 18 Mar 2020, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, all IWC Public Meetings were cancelled
On 29 Mar 2020 a submission was lodged with the Inner West Council about possible
improvements to Petersham Park Waste Management including separate coloured waste bins
similar to those at White's Creek "Ecofestival" on 25 Aug 2019 (Att C)
These Newsletters are to keep the Petersham Park Community updated on progress with the
Inner West Council on improved local Waste Management issues
