A 14:00-14:15 - REVIEW MTG WITH INNER WEST COUNCILLOR WED 26 JUN 2019
SGG outlined the key issues of his discussions with an Inner West Councillor on Wed 26 Jun
2019 14:00 - 15:00
1 Consider apply for Council Environment Grant to raise awareness of Biogas Issues
2 Consider taking a stall at the Footprints Econfestival on Sun 25 Aug 2019
3 The Leichhardt Community Men's Shed [LCMS] may be able to provide additional resources
The Inner West Councillor had explained that they had tried to convert Dog excrement in
worm farms but discovered that the de-worming tablets given to the dogs in fact killed the
worms in the worm farms !
SGG discussed with the Councillor how Biogas Digestion systems can convert excrement
(human, dog, cattle, pig, horse etc) as well as food waste to Methane (Biogas) and Fertiliser
B 14:15-14:45 - REVIEW INNER WEST COUNCIL ENVIRONMENT GRANT APPLICATION
SGG had spoken with Niki HUANG the Council's Environment Officer who explained
Environment Grant Applications have to be submitted by 23:59 Sun 30 Jun 2019

A Project Summary
A1 Specify how project will benefit local residents, workers and visitors
The Project is to collect Dog Excrement, food waste, grass cuttings and fallen leaves from a
local Park and use anaerobic digestion to convert this waste to Methane and Fertilisers
a The benefits to local residents
b The benefits to local workers
c The benefits to visitors
a The benefits to local residents include:
1 Converting dog excrement, food waste, grass cuttings and fallen leaves into methane gas for
heating the local pool and café and produce fertilisers for the Park and gardens
2 This methane could be used to heat the local swimming pool or provide gas for the café
outdoor heaters in winter
3 Reduce rate-payers' costs for heating local swimming pool
4 The fertiliser could be used on the local park or sold to local residents
5 Create a community to improve the local environment
6 Prove a concept that can be used in other local parks
b The benefits to local workers include:
1 Improve park facilities
c The benefits to visitors include:
1 A example of how an Inner West Council initiative was producing many local benefits for
climate Change issues
A2 Project Name - max 15 wds
The Biogas Digester solution to convert Animal and Food Waste to Energy and Fertiliser (14 Wds)
A3 Start Date 01 Sep 2019
A4 End Date 31 Aug 2020
A5 Brief Project Description - max 50 wds
The Project is to collect Dog Excrement, food waste, grass cuttings and fallen leaves from a
local Park and use anaerobic digestion to convert this waste to Methane and Fertilisers
If this project at Petersham Park is successful it can be used at other Inner West Council Dog
Parks (49 wds)
B Project Purpose
B1 Longer Project Description - max 75 wds
At the moment the Rate-payers provide plastic dog excrement bags free of charge for dog
owners to use to pick up their dog excrement and dispose of the bags in Council bins around
the park
This project will collect and weigh the dog excrement along with the other food waste and use
the Biogas Digester to convert the waste to Methane which will be measured and to Fertiliser
which will be bagged and weighed (74 Wds)
B2 What is the need or opportunity for this project - max 75 wds
Dog owners using Petersham Park have long recognised that Waste issues including dog
excrement have been a problem particularly at Public holidays when the Council bins are filled
to capacity
Local Residents particularly in Station Street have often noticed flooding in heavy rain as the
falling leaves block drains
Up to now there has not been a solution offered for disposing of dog excrement or the leaves
hence this proposal for a pilot Biogas project (75 wds)
