ZIG/ZAG: UNB - European Commission [EC] - "Blockchain for Social Good [BSG]" Challenge
Notice of Draft Minutes Meeting 8 held Tue 12 Feb 2019 REF:UNBACM8n
Hi everyone
This is the On-line link to the draft minutes Mtg 7 T 29 Jan 2019 of the EC-BSG
H2020 Challenge with an update on Cryptocurrencies and Blockchain Research
A 17:30-18:00 - Review key project issues for h2020 submissions
B 18:00-18:10 - Review overseas "Cryptocurrency" research
C 18:10-18:25 - update on "Blockchain" initiatives
A 17:30-18:00 - FINALISE KEY PROJECT ISSUES FOR H2020 SUBMISSIONS
PMA said the email that we received from Frank in Adelaide about the article "Blood
of Slaves in the Bluestone of SA" by Peter GOERS printed on 20 Jan 2019 in the Adelaide
Advertiser raised some important issues of concern about "Blockchain"
These issues of concern include:
1 The fact that the British Government and thus the British tax-payers could enter a
contract in 1883 under the Slavery Abolition Act 1833 to compensate Slave Traders for
180 years from 1835-2015 for the equivalent total of BPS 16.5 Billion
2 The fact that such a large sum of money led to the development of South Australia by a
number of families who received that compensation ref Peter GOERS article 20 Jan 2019
3 The fact that the history was hidden so well for such a long time from Australians as well
as UK Tax-payers
4 That some of the same families are currently major influencers in the development of
"Blockchain" applications
According to an article on 01 Jan 2019 by Stephen BARTHOLOMEUSZ "Leveraged
to the hilt: World has a Au$ 264 Trillion Problem" Australia's net Government debt,
which was Au$ 0 in 2007 prior to the GFC, is now Au$ 350 Billion !
Hence was the Global Financial Crises [GFC] 2007-2009 just another Bankers' ruse to ensure
Governments have to keep imposing austere measures on civilian populations and keep
people, councils and state Governments in perpetual debt ?
Indeed according to an 2016 article in the Australian by Judith SLOAN "Digital
Disasters haemorrhage Bucketsful of Money" she lists the many IT disasters in
Health and Education which have become a permanent drain of the Public Purse
It also appears similar to the case of the 2004 Australian-USA Free Trade
agreement [Aus-USA FTA] and the 2008 National eHealth Transition Authority
[NeHTA] multiple eHealth Standards where the Minister responsible for signing the
documents retires from Public Service soon after the Contracts are signed and
leaves the problems to somebody else to cope with the cost overruns and major
delays which often become legal issues
B 18:00-18:15 - REVIEW OVERSEAS CRYPTOCURRENCY RESEARCH
The Meeting reviewed these "Cryptocurrency" articles

"Virtually every profession is being impacted by emerging technologies such as artificial
intelligence, 3D printing, and blockchain", Bhaskar Pant, Executive Director of Professional
Education at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology said in a recent statement.
These new learning options are designed to address the critical skills and specialized
knowledge necessary to succeed in a 21st century technology workforce".
CJD said now that Educational Institutions have recognised the importance of people
understanding "Blockchain" we should develop our own On-line training program to assist
people to understand the issues
b 2019/02/01 Cryptocurrency looks for respectability as 200+ exchanges registered
The full article can be reviewed here
Australia's top financial intelligence agency [AUSTRAC] has now officially registered
246 cryptocurrency exchanges - a move some claim is a step towards respectability for an
industry with a reputation problem.
Key points:
1 currency exchanges, which let people trade online assets like bitcoin, must be registered
with AUSTRAC
2 Industry spokespeople believe regulation is giving the industry credibility
3 Reports of fraud and investor loss related to digital currencies continue
A 2019/02/01 Cryptocurrency looks for respectability as 200+ exchanges registered
SGG said it appears that in Australia the The Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing
Act 2006 enabled AUSTRAC to establish "The Digital Currency Register" which is quite amazing
when you consider the first open source bitcoin client was released on 09 Jan 2009
It just shows how far ahead our Australian Politicians are with this new technology !
a 2019/02/01 Wyoming Passes Bill to Recognize Cryptocurrencies as Money
The full article can be reviewed here
In the United States, the state of Wyoming passed a bill that will allow for cryptocurrencies to be
recognized as money on Jan. 31, according to the state legislature website.
On Jan. 18, Wyoming legislation presented the bill, which would help to clarify the classification
of cryptocurrency.
As reported by Cointelegraph earlier this month, the bill will place crypto assets into three
categories: digital consumer assets, digital securities and virtual currencies.
Any digital assets that fall into those three categories will be defined as intangible personal
property, granting virtual currencies the same treatment as fiat money.
SGG said it may be worth noting that Wyoming is the first US State to pass Legislation that
recognises Cryptocurrencies as legal tender with New Hampshire and Indiana following closely
behind

Cobalt essential for electric car batteries and smartphones is frequently mined by children.
Companies are using technology to track source of the mineral
Ford, IBM and LG have joined forces to use blockckain to prevent child labour being used to
mine minerals essential for making smartphones and electric cars.
The three multinationals and China's Huayou are using the technology to track cobalt mined in
the Democratic Republic of Congo along the supply chain to batteries making batteries for
Ford's electric vehicles.
Lithium-ion batteries are found in a host of consumer electronics including iPhones and tablets.
Surging demand has meant a boom in cobalt mining in the DRC, which produces around 60 per
cent of the global supply"
GMO said it is great that these companies are using "Blockchain" to track whether children are
mning Cobalt as this means "Blockchain" could be used to track whether children and slave-labour is
being used to mine other minerals

"THE UNIVERSAL GAMING TOKEN The PlayChip™ is changing the way you play".

of the world's leading gaming operators."Playchip is a blockchain enabled Universal Gaming Token
for sports betting, gaming, fantasy sports and eSport industries and will revolutionise the
$ 3 Trillion-a-year global economy"
JNN said as I used to import and sell Poker Machines 30-years ago it is very interesting to see how
"Blockchain" will be used to track gaming credits with Universal Gaming Tokens
As, according to the IBM Press release 05 May 2018 "Australia's goal is to become one of the
top-three digital governments in the world by 2025, while delivering services that are simple,
convenient and easy to use for Australian citizens and businesses" Training on Blockchain and
related issues will be very important for Australian citizens and businesses to comprehend the
plethora of information likely to be provided over the next 5 years
