A 17:30-17:50 - Review "Energy - 27 Q&A"and "ICT - 8 Q&A" topics

The Topics for On-line discussion by 1st year Engineering students at 30 Participating
Universities that are members of EWB are:

C	Energy - 27 questions

D	ICT [Information and Communications Technologies]	8 questions

There are concerns that as more and more vehicles including cars become electric,
how is the Energy going to be provided with the latest debacles on the National
Electricity Grid hence the use of Pedal Power to reduce the drain on the grid for
many local community and home applications

Following the email re "Energy" & "ICT" questions we have received an email from
the Head of School of Engineering of one of the Universities involved with EWB
asking what can they do to help

 "Dear Stephen

How can I help with this ?"

The Professor has been asked to consider a prototype Pedal-Power project similar to
the example in the Powerhouse Museum and provide statistics on the Power outputs
that can be produced

In the meantime Wayne has reviewed the Energy issues and Zambia Luena River
system which is deemed suitable for irrigation and generating Biomass for Energy yet
a micro-hydro pump is not operational because the gearbox broke down some years
ago

This raises the issue of local skills to fix pumps, bikes and other equipment

Perhaps the Universities could arrange annual camps for students to carry out
repairs and provide new equipment and training for the local people

Perhaps this could be off-set against the Students Higher Education Contribution
Scheme (HECS) fees as well as earn the Students local eCredits

B 17:50-18:10 - Emails blocked by Gmail, Outlook and Yahoo email service providers

SGG reported on the email blocks by Outlook, Gmail and Yahoo

On Thu 26 Apr 2018 Outlook blocked all email distribution on progress with the UNDP
Zambia project from 14 Outlook email accounts

On Wed 16 May 2018 on email "ehn.1a3posgg@gmail.com" Gmail reported only 112 emails had
been blocked yet there were no "Automated Email Received [AER]" messages received as
evidence that any emails had been sent and received

On Thu 17 May 2018 these issues were reported in writing by the SAN Public Officer to
the SAN Official Agent

On Sat 19 May 2018 we endeavoured to set up new email accounts with Gmail and Outlook

These accounts could not be opened

Also on Sat 19 May 2018 we endeavoured to open up new accounts with Yahoo email which
SAN has never used in the past

Yahoo would not allow any email addresses to be created

On Mon 21 May 2018 the SAN Public Officer endeavoured to contact Outlook, Gmail and
Yahoo on the telephone to discuss why emails could not be sent - contact report

Messages were left for a call-back with both Outlook and Gmail yet as at 17:30 Tue 22
May 2018 no call backs have been received

This process took over 2 hrs and the only person who could be contacted was "Dev" in
Yahoo who refused to open an account unless a date of birth was given

"Dev" would not give a reason why a date of birth was required for Yahoo to open an account
and not let the end user open their own account

"Dev" terminate the phone call when the SAN Public Officer would not give a date of birth

At 15:30 Mon 21 May 2018 the SAN Official Agent and Public Officer signed a letter to
be sent along with the report by email to the Hon Julie BISHOP Federal Minister for
Foreign Affairs seeking who was the most appropriate person to contact on this issue

This email was sent via "ehn.1a3posgg@gmail.com" and an AER was received from
the office of the Hon Julie BISHOP as the Minister for Foreign Affairs

C 18:10-18:30 Discuss need for urban planning advice for refugee resettlement areas

SGG said from his review of the questions and answers given there appeared to be
a need for Urban Planning rather than one-off 1st year student projects

According to the Wikipedia Settlement Hierarchy:

	A City is 100,000-300,00 people
	A large Town is 20,000 - 100,000 people
	A Town is 1,000 - 20,000 people
	A Village is 100 - 1,000 people
A Hamlet is a population of less than 100 people

Hence it appears that a refugee camp of more than 1,000 people requires an Urban Planning
strategy

Possible contacts on this issue could be Dallas ROGERS a speaker on Urban Planning
who is a lecturer at the School of Architecture, Sydney University

PMA suggested Donal CARR who, as a Staff Architect at the Sydney Cove
Redevelopment Authority (1970- 1986), led the revitalisation of The Sydney
Rocks area

Donal was contacted and he proposed that Paul RAVESTEYN of the Northgate Ministries may
be interested
