10:00-10:15 10:00-10:15 REVIEW INNER WEST COUNCIL LHS & ITS STRATEGIES
SGG had been invited by the Inner West Councillor to attend the Inner West Council Public
Meetings at Leichhardt Town Hall about the new Local Housing Strategy [LHS] and Integrated
Transport Strategy [ITS] on Wed 26 Jul 2019
SGG had copies of the ICW handouts LHS and ITS which were reviewed along with the
feedback given to Councillor DA CRUZ after the meeting
"Thank you for notice of the meeting last night at Council particularly the Local Housing
Strategy and contact with Terri SOUTHALL, Helen BRADLEY, Louise HIGGINSON, Ken
WELSH and Rob MANSFIELD
It was a very well organised and productive meeting and thank you for the documents re
the Local Housing Strategy which will be made available at our meetings at the Petersham
Bowling Club at the week-end
There are 2 issues that we will be including in feedback on the Local Housing Strategy
re Principle 7 "Housing is designed for Ecological Sustainability" namely:
1 effective Waste Management processes using Biogas technology processes
2 generating local electricity via Pedal-Power
The Inner West Council the Integrate Transport Strategy [ITS] includes moving to an
electric transport system as the rest of the world has defined dates for the end of the
selling of diesel and petrol cars starting with Norway and the Netherlands in 2025
I note p53 of the ITS states "welcome to your free local bike shed - use your Opal card to
gain entry to secure your bike"
And p64 of the ITS states " Harness Technology"
In 2010 the Sustainability Action Network [SAN] proposed establishing Bike Sheds that were
attached to schools and local hospitals which could generate electricity that could be
used or stored locally in batteries
It may be worth reviewing the "Pedal Power" economic model again
There is also the issue that current "Blockchain" Technologies consumes enormous
quantities of Electricity to synchronise distributed databases"
10:15-10:30 REVIEW JOINT-VENTURE SUBMISSION TO COUNCIL FRI 02 AUG 2019
SGG provided a copy of the signed Draft Notice of Motion by Peter AXTENS LLB (Retired) the
Official Agent of the Sustainability Action Network [SAN] and said that the "Background" to
the Notice of Motion would be completed by 17:00 Wed 31 Jul 2019
This Background would be reviewed by the SAN Committee on Thu 01 Aug 2019 and the
revised version delivered to Council on Fri 02 Aug 2019 for a submission hearing on Tue 13
Aug 2019
SGG said he had spoken with Helen BRADLEY who emailed of the status of the Inner West
Council direction on Waste Management explained that there was a review of all the organic
waste issues for the new amalgamated Council
"We're currently working on a partnership project with UTS (ISF) and Sydney Water mapping
organic inputs and outputs from the Inner West from residential and commercial including food
organics, garden organics, fats, oils and grease, sewage, dog poo etc
We'll then be mapping an action plan of larger and smaller scale solutions for managing
organics.
Our organics project will be a larger scale version of the Pyrmont, Ultimo Precinct project

SGG said that from the feedback that he had received on Wed 26 Jul the IWC was very keen
to work with any Groups that help raise awareness of improved Waste Management issues
with the local communities
