EWB CHALLENGE - UNHCR - ZAMBIA- REFUGEES

DISCUSSION FORUM 2016 - INDEX OF QUESTIONS ASKED UNA INTEREST GROUP

A	CLIMATE CHNAGE & AGRICULTURE

B	COMMUNITY & CULTURE

KEY PROJECT ISSUE OF REFUGEE DEMOGRAPHICS

We have notice that the Students have asked Engineers without Borders [EWB] about the Refugee
Demographics on a number of occasions

The first one was the Community & Culture section question "B13: Age of Population in
Myukwayukwa"

EWB have given a number of excellent responses to many questions but this particular question
may best be answered by UNDP-Zambia as it may have that information

	YEARS MALES FEMALES

A	0-4

B	5-11

C	12-17

D	18-19

E	60-70

F	71 +

This information is necessary to plan how many school places are required at each stage,
female health and hygiene issues and skills training for youth and young adults

As it appears that some families have been there for 3 generations then the aged-care issues
have to be considered

As there is a map of the 1130 Plots of Land, it would also be very helpful to know the following

1	How many Plots of Land have been planned in the Myukwayukwa area?

2	How many Plots of land have been occupied ?

3	How many people live in each plot ?

4	How many people/families are waiting to be allocated a plot ?

Apparently in the reply from EWB it quoted Zambian statistics that 56% of males are under 18
and 56% of females are also under 18

This may not be appropriate for planning for Myukwayukwa's 11,000 Refugees or Mehaba with
its 15,000 Refugees

Do we have these exact statistics for people that have moved from the Refugee camps to the
Resettlement areas ?
