A COLLECTOR FINE ART - Leigh MURPHY
Leigh Murphy ia not building an empire, he is quitting one.....
After 44 years as an Art Dealer he has also amassed quite an impressive art Collection
Leigh was a major wholesaler of big name art to the Australian Art Trade, while also
working part-time for 15 years shipping European 19th and 20th century works to New
York, London and Paris from South America
With over 300 major name works ro quit in the next few years, he has recently opened his
gallery "The Collection" in Noosa Junction, to find new collectors and buyers
Amongst the current works on display in the gallery are two original Norman LINDSAY
works, one is a Conte Crayon Drawing by the then 21 year-old Norman, of his then 16
year-old sister Ruby
The Lindsays were a bohemian clan and their upbringing in Creswick Victoria, encouraged
freedom of word…action…nudity…and communing…thus in nature
Ruby herself an artist, tragically died in London in 1919 at the end of the big flu epidemic
The major oil that Leigh has by Norman LINDSAY is of Miss Bedford, the daughter of
Lionel LINDSAY'S friend and publisher
This superb work is a full length half-clad nude of Ruby's best friend in her young adult
years
Both works have Direct Provenance back to the Lindsays
Speaking with Leigh at The Collection is undoubtedly an exciting enlightenment into the
world of art and dealing
Leigh is a fountain of information about art and the art world…and a true raconteur…full of
tantalising stories
You will find it very hard to leave the Gallery !
