PROPOSED AUSTRALIAN INFORMATION INDUSTRY TSUNAMI RELIEF INITIATIVE
Death toll by Country
A Background
B Initial EIT Communities to invite
C Timescale - 13 week plan
A BACKGROUND
Over the week-end 01-02 Jan 2005 a number of conversations were held by OIC Members
about the tragedy of the Asia-Pacific Tsunami on 26 Dec 2004 and the
long term impact on the people whose communities and livelihoods were destroyed
The discussions culminated in the formation of a plan for:
1 a proposal to try to establish an Australian Electronic Information Industry
Alliance to provide long term support for the devastated countries
2 an invitation to Duane NICKULL Vice Chair UN/CEFACT to speak at the proposed
inaugural lunch/dinner
3 an objective to provide expertise, product and services to the affected countries
rather than just finance
B INITIAL EIT COMMUNITIES TO INVITE SUPPORT TSUNAMI RELIEF
There appear to be 5 major Australian groups to invite to provide EIT Community
Support for the Tsunami Relief:
1 UN/CEFACT and Tradegate Tradegate
Members are mainly companies involved with
Customs and Export
2 Australian Information Industry Association AIIA
Members are IT hardware, software and consultancies
3 The Australian Computer Society ACS
Members are individuals who obtain ACS accreditation
for employment purposes
4 Software Engineering Australia SEA
Members are mainly SME software developers
5 Open Interchange Consortium OIC
Members are mainly EII Consultants, SMEs and companies
using the Electronic Tender Information Service [TIMS]
An e-mail will be sent to each group to inquire if they are interested in
supporting a combined Australian Electronic Industries Tsunami Relief Alliance [AEITR]
for this proposed Asia-Pacific Tsunami Relief initiative
The AEITRA could be along the lines of the US Electronic Industry
Alliance
