12:55 Sun 26 Aug 2007 REF:6123MCR1 Y/R: letter dated 2007/08/16 TO: Cr Denise WILTON cc KSAS-Mosman MAYOR F: {61}(2) 9978-4132 MOSMAN MUNICIPAL COUNCIL Dear Madam Mayor and Councillors PARENTS BELIEVE WRONG ADVICE TO COUNCILLORS Thank you for your letter dated Thu 16 Aug 2007 received Tue 21 Aug 2007. This response is to clarify issues of concern raised in your letter. The issues of concern raised in your letter include: A The advice to the Councillors that it is not Council's responsibility but the State Government's responsibility - This Advice is questioned by Parents B KSAS-AU is a commercial organisation - No its Not-for-Profit C Same question asked 3 times before - No each different A WRONG ADVICE TO MOSMAN COUNCILLORS The whole reason why Kids Safe-at-Sport Mosman is a Parents'Initiative is because the Parents have identified gaps in the NSW Department of Sport and Recreation Child Protection policy. KSAS-Mosman parents have endeavoured the explain this to the Council 1 at 4 seminars in May and Jun 2 requested to discuss the issue at the Aug meeting of the Sporting Fields User Group 3 In a letter to you the Mayor on Sun 05 Aug 2007 Hence one of the three question that was scheduled to be asked on Tue 07 Aug included "Why is Mosman Council policy on Child protection in Sport opposite to Manly Council Policy ?' B KSAS-AU IS A NOT-FOR-PROFIT ORGANISATION "The Kids Safe-at-Sport [KSAS]-Mosman" is a Mosman's parents initiative sponsored by a Mosman business. KSAS-Mosman is a not for profit organisation whereby all the sponsorship funds and to pay for the Junior Sports Clubs to comply with the Child Protection Legislation. The core application "The Junior Sport Information System [JSIS]" and the "Electronic Volunteer Management System [EVMS]" were sponsored by members of the Open Interchange Consortium [OIC] as Joint Ventures with Pittwater RSL Football Club parents. Pittwater RSL Football Club is in the same SHOROC Football Association as Mosman Football Club. It is very relevant to note that the Wentworth Courier published an article last week about the problems for Junior Football Clubs in the Eastern Suburbs "Sporting Volunteers feel the pressure". C DIFFERENT QUESTION EACH COUNCIL MEETING There was a different question at each Council meeting 1 03 Jul 2007 - Can KSAS-Mosman assist with Festival of Mosman - No response 2 17 Jul 2007 - Can KSAS-Mosman speak at the 08 Aug Mosman Sporting Fields User Group Meeting - No response 3 07 Aug 2007 - Why SHOROC Councils have different Child Protection Policies - not allowed to ask question NEXT STEPS A written response to these Questions on Notice would be appreciated by 17:00 Fri 06 Sep 2007 Thank you Att A Wentworth Courior Article Yours sincerely Stephen GOULD Hon Secretary E: stephen.gould@ksas-au.net KSAS-MOSMAN M: 0416-009-468
