Dear Sir/Madam

This is a submission by the XML & E-commerce Special Interest Group [XZIG] of the
Open Interchange Consortium [OIC].

This is a summary response to the EoI2001/10 E-Commerce Initiative published by the
On-line Services group of the Department of Employment, Workplace Relations and Small
Business [DEWRSB] on 4 May 2001.

The OIC was established in July 1994 as an unincorporated association of Australian Businesses.

In December 1999 OIC members formed the XML & E-commerce Special Interest Group [XZIG]

The objectives of XZIG include supporting the development of Extensible Markup Language [XML]
standards and projects to accelerate the adoption of Electronic Commerce particularly by Small
and Medium size business Enterprises [SMEs]

The OIC XZIG has actively support and promoted XML in Australia through a series of monthly
meetings.

These monthly meetings have attracted a number of key international speakers including:

Dr Lauren WOOD Chair W3C DOM Committee Canada
Simon NICHOLSON	Chair W3C XML Marketing Committee	USA

In the timescale available, this response is not a detailed business plan but an overview of why
the OIC has the experience and management resources to assist DEWRSB with sections B and C of
the EoI.

This response provides an indication of the levels of expertise, commitment, experience and
resources available to ensure that the long term objectives of this EoI, including assisting
Australian SMEs actively adopt E-commerce, are achieved.

Yours faithfully

Stevan GILLMORE
